The Adventurists

The Team & the Rally

THE WHATS: In July our team, CCD Rally, will set off for Mongolia! For those of you who still don't know what is the Mongol Rally, in brief it can be described as an adventureus rally from London/Prague to Ulaanbaatar with no support, no back-up and no set route. The start and finish lines are straightforward, everything in between is not: "Imagine you're lost in a massive desert, hundreds of miles from civilization, driving a car your granny would be embarrassed by...That's the Mongol Rally - 16,000 km of pure adventure over mountains, deserts and some of the most remote terrain on the planet" - This is more like it!
THE RULES: This rally is organized by "the Adventurists", organization guided by the belief that "there are still adventures to be found in the world" and that it is also their responsibility to look after this planet!
For this reason, the Mongol Rally has basic rules:
  1. It is completely devoted to charity and every team that participates must finance their own travel expenses and donate as much money as possible to selected NGOs! From 2004 up to this point, the ralliers have succeeded to gather more than 2.0 ML £!!
  2. The Mongol Rally isn't about comfort and it doesn't have a great deal to do with style, what we seek is adventure. The whole point is that it's difficult. Hence to tackle the worst roads in the world you need a chariot with an engine size of under 1 litre (ish) (< 1000 cc)

THE TEAM: We will hence participate in the edition of 2012 that leaves from London the 14th of July or from Prague the 16th. Our conveyance is an old FIAT Panda registered in Jan 2003 and it is obvious that this tiny little car designed for going on a weekly shop will probably encounter some               problems on the road!

The team is composed of Tommaso, Lorenzo and Ranieri, three friends from Rome and              students at English and Italian universities studying Politics, Physics and Mathematics              respectively.

THE ROUTE: we will try and follow on a larger scale the one of Marco Polo - a small tribute to another great Italian explorer - while the actual roads taken will be studied on a daily basis. The main problem is that Marco Polo travelled across Persia but nowadays, Iran, has a difficult political situation and it won't be that easy to pass thorugh it.
We will however peregrinate between: Italy - Austria - Czech Republic - Slovakia - Hungary - Serbia - Bulgaria - Turkey - Georgia - Azerbaijan - Turkmenistan - Uzbekistan - Kyrgyzstan - Kazakhstan - Russia - Mongolia!
