We are team "The Wrong Way Around" and taking on the Mongol Rally this summer - we hope to keep this site updated often prior to our departure and hopefully a lot when we are on the road, not that internet services are likely to be easily found along our chosen 'un-route' but we will find a way! After spending a total of 45 hours at the border we finally made it through to Mongolia yesterday. Got up and on the road at 5.30 this morning and after 4 hours and one tow through a river we have done 50 miles... It's going too be slow going.

Stuck at the Russia/Mongolia border having a few beers waiting for it to open tomorrow morning. I just hope we've got enough beer... Into Mongolia tomorrow them on to Ulaanbaatar!

Arrived in Gorno-Altaysk (we think our means "Alcoholic-Town") in the middle of nowhere last night. Decided to sleep here as it's the last bigish town before the Mongolian boarder, ended up in a soviet era apartment block with no showers and a very curious toilet arrangement. Off to the border now, hoping to be in Mongolia today!

Driving, driving, driving today. Covered 1900km in one tiring go. Arrived in Semey ( former soviet atomic bomb testing site)... Is nice! Highlight of the day, Antonio singing the Italian national anthem to get out of another speeding ticket. Another marathon of pothole dodging into Russia tomorrow.@

Crossed into Kazakhstan yesterday, after spending three hours crossing the broader - because they were having lunch. Arrived in a small city called Sharaz and spent the night. Now going to do a foul 36 hour drive to make up for list time.

Finally! We have got our Turkmenistan visas this morning, blagged the official to open the office and camped out all day at the docks, hoping for a space on the cargo ship across the caspian - we are now on a boat and heading east to borat lands! No contact for a bit as Turkmenistan is the north Korea of central Asia! The boat is a rusty hulk with Russian crew - but it'll do!
