The Adventurists

TEAM CAA

Welcome to my site. Thank you for following me as I participate in the Mongol Rally. I will do my best to post updates from the road.

Preparations coming to a close...

Here's the latest:

We transfered the car's registration from DC to New York. Then we filed that new registration with The Adventurists. We followed that with a full mechanical workup on the car, including the installation of a roof rack. We also finished buying the essential campaign equipment -- including the tent and the stove. In the meantime, the Visa Machine came through and CAA received a passport full of them. ZDZ is still sorting out his visas in New York. Our biggest challenge was that the NY State Title Bureau was not certain that they could produce a new original title by the ship date, but we just heard that they did, and that it'll arrive tomorrow. We will then deposit the car at the port in New Jersey for its journey to Southampton. From now on, planning will consist of further detailing our route and looking for interesting things to see, as well as buying the optional kit.

The tent and stove have arrived -- one or two more shipments and the equipment will be complete. Meanwhile, the car is in the shop getting fitted with a roof rack, and the spare parts we'll need are on order. Things are really starting to come together.

Update: Received all of my visas and my passport in on its way back to New York. The car is officially registered with the rally, and we are awaiting the NY title certificate in order to ship it off to London. All very good news. -CAA

I would like to add that Carlos has been putting in a huge effort in trying to get the car issues sorted out. All expeditions run into logistical problems before the start. That is part of the fun and in the end make an expedition more rewarding.

Here's the latest: The car was registered in New York, but the New York Title Bureau is not certain they can produce an original title by the ship date. As with all of the challenges we're facing in the run-up to the rally, we're taking it one day at a time and exploring all of our options. We remain confident that we can move beyond this.

So the process is this: Tomorrow, we transfer the car's registration from DC to New York. Then we file that new registration with The Adventurists. After that, we hope and pray that the new title arrives quickly, and take that -- along with the car and some additional paperwork - to the port for shipping. This all has to be taken one step at a time. Onward.

Just finalized the shipping arrangements for the car. Will spend the week registering it in New York and buying the rest of the equipment we'll need for the journey. -CAA
